All about make up kevyn aucoin
Making Faces by Kevyn AucoinThis book and I go back. The first time I was allowed to wear makeup, I was fourteen. Super excited, naturally. I recall my mom getting me this around that time. Back then I was probably more interested in the pictures than anything else this book had to offer (it has a lot!). Long story short, I learned little to nothing, arrogantly assumed I had and gave it away in the monthly book swap. Smart girl. Thankfully I repurchased a used version this summer. Im not sure how many times Ive read this book, but this was the first time I truly appreciated it.
I tried to recreate one of Kevyns looks on Lisa Marie Presley, which has always been one of my favourites. Its a far cry from anything he could do before he passed away, but I felt like sharing for the sake of the review. I should also note that the instructions regarding application are far from ample, but personally I skimmed over these parts.
Now that Im looking at it again, this could use a lot of work. My biggest concern here is my eyebrows. What was I thinking? Maybe if I ever redo this look Ill update the picture, but for now thats all. Overlook the resting bitch face.
Face Forward by Kevyn Aucoin
Kevyn James Aucoin February 14, — May 7, was an American make-up artist , photographer and author. He published a number of industry defining cosmetics books, which are now widely accepted as introducing makeup contouring to the general public for the first time. Aucoin was interested in makeup from the time he was a child, and frequently did his sisters' makeup and photographed the results with a Polaroid camera—something he'd do throughout his career. Afraid to buy makeup, he would shoplift it. The guilt of stealing and fear of getting caught made him stop.
As rumours of an upcoming documentary about the late, great Kevyn Aucoin swirl, Vogue takes a look at the fascinating life of the influential make-up artist. Despite this adversity, his passion for make-up always prevailed. He would resort to stealing products from stores as he was too embarrassed to buy then and would often practise application techniques on his sisters. Shortly after he quit school, he enrolled into beauty school. After moving to New York, Aucoin would do test shoots on models for free to build his portfolio and was quickly discovered by Vogue.
