And You Don't Even Know It
There's a clock on the wall and it's moving too slow. It's got hours to kill and a lifetime to go. And I'm holding my breath 'til I hear the last bell. Then I'm coming out hard and I'm giving 'em hell. Cause I'm a superstar and you don't even know it.
He wants to be a drag queen, and his loving but one-dimensional mother supports him, and his classmates and friends seem to find it cool, except for one of the typical asshole boys who thinks he is macho but is really obviously fragile in his masculinity. Okay, cool, Jamie, go be a drag queen, you are beautiful so you will be great at it. This is all clear in the first five minutes. Her outdated beliefs are only a tiny bit easier to believe than the fact that a school teacher in a tiny town has Christian Louboutin heels, another thing that is mentioned ostensibly to help the writers reach their word limit. And they fill it with bad music. But this score is not even as promising as the bad songs we would cook up in drama class in middle school. Oh but the trite, derivative lyrics stick in your head, so it has that going for it.
This staggeringly enjoyable musical about a teen drag queen transfers triumphantly to London. This new British musical, transferring from the Sheffield Crucible, is the real deal. Inspired by a BBC documentary about a teenager who wanted to be a drag queen, the show follows year-old Jamie on his journey to be himself — out of a classroom in a working-class part of Sheffield, away from the bigotry of a deadbeat dad, and into high heels. It captures the frenetic energy of being a teenager. Every element of this show works beautifully together. His dialogue is punchy, funny and often lands with a sting. While most of the characters exist to orbit Jamie, they still have their own stories and these are crisply told.
Everybody's Talking About Jamie the Musical - And You Don't Even Know It Lyrics "And You Don't Even Know It" is a song performed by John McCrea (Jamie ).
